This article will outline Targeted Push Notifications and how to utilize them for more targeted marketing campaigns.

Background

What Are Targeted Push Notifications?

Targeted Push Notifications are a way to send out a message to a specific group of your app's users.

How Can I Specify The Users To Receive A Targeted Push Notification?

Users are identified by the email entered in their app's user profile section. There are several opportunities for a user to enter their email address:
  1. At the beginning of a round (not mandatory)
  2. Joining the Offer Locker (mandatory)
  3. Joining a Loyalty Program (mandatory)
  4. Filling out their User Profile in the app (outlined below)
    1. Open the app on a cellular device
    2. Click the silhouette at the top-right of the Home Screen
    3. Click the gear at the top-right of the Scorecard History page
    4. Enter email
    5. Click Save

What If Someone Hasn't Entered Their Email Address And I Target A Message To Them?

Users without a matching email address entered in their user profile will not receive the Targeted Push Notification. After the Push Notification is sent, a dialogue box will appear in the Gallus Dashboard outlining all of the email addresses that did not have an app associated with them.
See the After The Push Is Sent section later in this article for more information.

Sending A Targeted Push Notification

To send out a Targeted Push Notification, complete the following steps:
  1. Open the Gallus Admin Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to the Compose Push Notification page.

  3. In the Audience section, choose Targeted.

  4. Check the box next to Target Specific Users.

  5. Outline the parameters of your targeted message using one of three methods:
    1. Manual Entry
    2. Spreadsheet
    3. CSV File

You can upload a maximum of 2,500 email addresses per push notification.

Let's take a look at all three of those options:

Manual Entry

Enter each email address in the box below Emails, followed by a comma (,) and space. (EX. support@gallusgolf.com, info@gallusgolf.com, etc.)

Excel Spreadsheet

Use an Excel Spreadsheet that you have created or that has been exported from your POS system.
  1. Make sure the column with the emails has Email as the text in the top cell and the file is saved.
  2. Click Choose File in the admin dashboard.
  3. Select the spreadsheet and click OK.
  4. Check that the emails populated in the box below Email, then move along in the Send Push Notification process.

CSV File

Use a CSV file that you have created or that has been exported from your POS system.
  1. Obtain a CSV file with all of the emails you'd like to target with this Push Notification.
  2. Click Choose File in the admin dashboard.
  3. Select the CSV file and click OK.
  4. Check that the emails populated in the box below Email, then move along in the Send Push Notification process.
You can upload a maximum of 2,500 email addresses per push notification.

After The Push Is Sent

A dialogue box will appear with all of the email addresses that are not entered into the user profile of an app. From here, we recommend clicking either the Copy or Export buttons to grab the email addresses. (The Export button will give you a CSV file.) You can then send out an email from your email platform of choice notifying the users on that list that they're missing out on notifications by not having their email entered in the app.

Once you navigate away from this page, you will no longer be able to export the list of failed email addresses.

What Should I Use Targeted Push Notifications For?

Targeted Push Notifications are useful when you as an app manager need to send a message out to a select group of individuals. Here are some of the top uses for Targeted Push Notifications:
  1. League updates
  2. Day-of tournament notifications
  3. Member-only messages
  4. Course conditions update to just your tee sheet that day
  5. Tee time reminder to your next-day golfers
  6. And anything else you can dream up!
