Admin Setup Tutorial
Watch the video above for a walkthrough on how to set up a course within the Scorecard & GPS section of a Gallus Golf mobile app.
Step-By-Step Guide
Accessing The Virtual Caddie In An App
Open up the app you'd like to access the Scorecard & GPS from.
If this section is being accessed by the user for the first time, they will see a screen like the below:
They must enter a name and gender (for handicapping purposes), and can optionally enter their handicap (for leaderboards and net scoring games) and email address (for scorecard recovery).
After entering the necessary information, users will see a vertical version of the scorecard.
If your facility has multiple courses/rotations, users will first need to select which course they are playing before seeing the scorecard.
Navigating Within The Scorecard Page
There are a number of features in the scorecard page of the app (all labeled accordingly above). Let's take a look at each:
A) New Round
This starts the scorecard over and (if necessary) allows users to select a new course.
B) Add More Players
An unlimited number of players can be added to a scorecard, but most add four or less. Clicking the + will bring up the below screen:
C) Scoring Game
Tapping on this box allows users to select from a number of scoring styles:
Stroke
The most basic game in golf. Each shot taken by a player is counted as one stroke. At the end of the round, the player with the fewest strokes wins.
Stableford
Players receive points on each hole. This game rewards you for playing well, without punishing you when you have a bad hole. The golfer who earns the most points wins. Points are awarded as follows:
0 points for anything worse than bogey
1 point for bogey
2points for par
3 points for birdie
4 points for eagle
5 points for double eagle
Par
On each hole, +1, 0, or -1 points are awarded to players based on how they did relative to par on that hole. The player with the highest score wins. Points are awarded as follows:
+1 for birdie or better
0 for par
-1 for bogey or worse
Skins
This game is based on winning holes. The player who has the lowest score on a hole wins a skin for that hole. The golfer with the most skins at the end of the round wins.
If a hole is tied by two or more players, no skin is awarded and the skin is carried over to the next hole. The next player to win a hole wins not only the skin for that hole, but also skins for holes that carried over.
Skins w/o Carry
The same rules as Skins above, with the exceptions that skins do not carry over for tied holes.
Best Ball
Each player on the team plays his or her own golf ball throughout the round. The low score on each hole (or "best ball") of the group serves as the team score.
For example, on the first hole, Philip Rivers gets a 5, Ladainian Tomlinson gets a 4, Lorenzo Neal gets a 6, and Nick Hardwick gets a 6. On this hole, the "best ball" would be Tomlinson's score of 4.
Best Ball is generally played as stroke play with the total score added up at the end of the round.
Gross vs. Net
All of the above games can be played as either "Gross" or "Net". When Net scoring is used, the number of strokes on a hole is adjusted according to a player's handicap. When Gross scoring is used, handicaps are not factored into scoring.
D) Leaderboard
Tapping this button in a normal scorecard will bring up the monthly leaderboard of your course, along with any Custom Leaderboards you have created.
Tapping this will bring the user into the interactive GPS page of your scorecard (see next section).
Navigating The Interactive GPS Page
There are a number of features in the scorecard page of the app (all labeled accordingly above). Let's take a look at each:
A) Yardages
The top yardage represents the user's distance to the back of the green.
The middle yardage represents the user's distance to the middle of the green.
The bottom yardage represents the user's distance to the front of the green.
B) Shot Distance
Tapping this pin at the location a user hit from (before they walk to their ball) will give them the yardage the ball traveled once they get there.
C) Hole Information
Tapping this icon will give the user a box with pro tips, hole descriptions, and even a flyover video.
D) GPS Toggle
Tapping this icon will toggle location services on and off for the user's device.
When the Interactive GPS page is initially opened, this icon will change from Red (poor GPS location) to Yellow (fair GPS location) to Green (reliable GPS location). It is best to not trust the yardages until this icon has turned green.
E) Record Strokes
Tapping this will bring up a box to enter everyone's scores. Hitting record automatically takes the user to the next page.
F) Leaderboard
Tapping this button in a normal scorecard will bring up the monthly leaderboard of your course, along with any Custom Leaderboards you have created.
Tapping this button in a Tournament Software scorecard will bring up the live leaderboard(s) for that event.
G) Share
Tapping this button will allow the user to post a live link to their scorecard to a social media profile of their choice.
H) Food & Bev
Tapping this button will bring the user to any F&B menu(s) you have added into your app.
