How Birthday Rewards Work
Overview
The Birthday Rewards automation allows you to automatically send your customers a Birthday reward on the 1st of their birthday month when they fill out the birthday month or birthday field on their account.
Why it matters: Birthday rewards encourage customers to not only create an account but come in for a visit during their birthday month!
Rewards need to be created first in order to apply them as a Birthday Reward.
Things to note:
- You must enable the default birthday month field or the birthday field in Custom Fields for this capability to work.
- The field can be applied to when customers create an account and/or also when they edit their account.
- Use help text on the Birthday Month or Birthday Date fields to explain that completing the field unlocks a reward during their birthday month. It can also be mentioned in the Download Reward promo as a perk for creating an account!
- If customers are allowed to edit their account, they may be able to change their Birthday Date or Birthday Month. We put safeguards are in place to prevent giving customers a birthday reward twice within 10 months so that customers cannot game the system to get a birthday reward every month.
- For those using Club Prophet Single Sign On (SSO) you would need to set this field to editable on the Edit account; account creation is handled in the CPS system.
How it Works
On the first of every month, the Rewards system will look for customers that have filled out the Birthday Month field (new), or the Birthday Date field. If it’s for the current month, those users will be given the Birthday Rewards. Birthday Rewards are optional and need to be set up.

here. How to Set Up Automatic Birthday Rewards
- From the left navigation menu in your admin dashboard, click Rewards
- Click the Birthday Rewards tab at the top of the page
- In the center of the screen, you will see the Create to add Birthday Rewards
- On the right-hand side of the screen, you will see the Birthday Rewards Settings panel
- First add the Rewards you wish to give to customers during their birthday month.
- Toggle on Birthday Rewards Settings to activate the time in which you'll send an automated push notification and what you want to say!
- When enabled, you can create your own push notification message or use our default.
User Experience
Customers who have filled out your Birthday Month or Birthday date field will receive a push notification at the time you set along with your set birthday reward(s) on the 1st of the month, expiring at the end of the month.
Note: If customers are allowed to edit their account details, they may be able to change their Birthday Date or Birthday Month. We put safeguards are in place to prevent giving customers a birthday reward twice within 10 months so that customers cannot game the system to get a birthday reward every month.
- Customer opens your app
- Customer fills out their Birthday Date or Birthday Month via Profile or Create Account
- Create Account:


- Edit Account:


- Customer receives push notification on the first day of their Birthday month


- Customer can view their birthday reward(s) and will have until the end of the month to redeem

- Customer taps a Reward to view details. Depending on the reward action they will see a redemption button, a link button or no button.



- Customer taps Redeem Now button

- A message appears, asking the customer if they're sure they'd like to use the offer now. If yes, tap the checkbox and then tap Redeem

- For multi use Rewards, the customer selects the Quantity before tapping the checkbox and then tapping Redeem

- A timestamp appears with the time the offer was redeemed.

- The customer shows the timestamped Reward to staff at the time of purchase.
- If it is a multiple use reward the customer will be able to view their redemption history until they've used all the rewards available to them.

- DONE! After Redemption
- One-time Rewards move to the Redeemed tab
- Multi-use Rewards show redemption history until all uses are exhausted, then move to the Redeemed tab

Filter By Birthday Month or Birthday on Customers
- Filter by Birthday Month and see all the customers who have selected that Month
- Aside from the automated Birthday Reward(s) and automated push notification that now happen for you; you can send other types of messages, apply different types of rewards or export these customers
- Filter by Birthday date - a little more limiting - but similar to Birthday Month
